Lotus Longline Vest Crochet Pattern
Today’s free crochet pattern is a long, easy, feminine crocheted vest that is just super pretty. 🙂 You can see the pattern for free below, or you may choose to grab it from my Etsy shop as an ad-free printable HERE, or from Lion Brand as a kit HERE.
This long, crocheted vest is so beautiful to wear with dresses, jeans, or even shorts! It’s great to cover the rear end (lol) and also can easily be dressed up or down.
I’ve been on a never ending kick of a lot of sweaters and blankets, so it feels really refreshing to do something new. While this vest could be used any time of year, I’m loving it for spring and summer. I named it the “Lotus” vest because the slight ruffle at the bottom reminds me of a blossoming flower and feels so springy.
It’s crocheted with two stitches that are modern, clean, and also have the look of knitting. The entire vest is crocheted with worsted weight yarn (Lion Brand Yarn Basic Stitch available in several colors), so it makes for a great stash buster! You can get creative with the color or colors that you choose. It’s also nice to know that the Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling will hold up to washing and there won’t be any pilling. Yay!
By the way, if you like beginner friendly, sleeveless tops, definitely check out my Vintage Easy Sleeveless Top Crochet Pattern HERE or my crocheted Summer Vacation Top HERE. You might also like my super simple Classic Knit Top HERE.
The two features I really enjoy about this design is the long length as well as the flirty, understated flare at the bottom. This slight ruffle is simple to create as it happens naturally when you change stitches from the moss stitch to the v-stitch. There’s no complicated increasing, decreasing or shaping.
The vest is made in three rectangular pieces and is seamed together. You’ll crochet each panel from the bottom up, first working the v-stitch and then the moss stich. Fun fun!
I think you can wear this with just about anything! Wear it with jeans, short or your dress. It’s really slimming with the straight, clean lines. I think it would be fun to wear it with a boho outfit as it’s mix of modern with a feel of 70’s crochet.
Hope you enjoy!
Just a reminder that you can see the full, free crochet vest pattern below, or you may choose to purchase the ad-free, printable pattern from Etsy HERE.

Because it’s made with simple shapes, you’ll find it a nice meditative pattern to crochet while hanging out at home. The long, straight lines and understated ruffle make it slimming and beautiful. Notes:
This vest is made by crocheting three rectangular panels and seaming them at the sides and shoulders. Each panel is worked from the bottom up. You’ll work two different stitch patterns that include the v-stitch and the moss stitch. The panels begin with the v-stitch which works up wider than the moss stitch. This gives you the slight ruffle effect without having to do any fancy increasing! You may make the cardigan longer by crocheting more rows on each panel – keep yarn needs in mind.

The vest it beautiful. I hope your sweet dog is doing better. I know it’s hard to see your pet not doing well.
So sorry to hear about your beloved dog. We went through the same last January with our beloved 15 years old Chihuahua. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Wondering if you will ever publish a version of the Lotus Longline Vest in knit, rather than crochet. Thanks
I don’t have plans for a knit version at the moment Lindi.
I know you hear this constantly, but I would love this in a knitting pattern. Slimming and covering my backside–yes!
Sorry your dog isn’t doing well. Our pets are part of the family.
So glad you like the design, Kris! And thanks for the sweet words about Ruby. They are family for sure.

Your pattern calls for a size K hook, but the kits offers a G hook. Which is the correct size?
I’ll have to check on that! It’s a K hook. 🙂
Hi Jessica, This note is long overdue, considering what you have meant in my life. But first, I am thinking of your little doggie, and grieving with you. I have had dog or dogs (usually the latter), All of my entire life. I am 67, so that is a lot of furry babies. It is so hard, so very hard, to lose them. The grief is deep and long lasting. At present, we have 4 Shih Tzus. But a year ago we had Buddy, a Boston Terror, who was 15 years old. We lost him then. I still often count to five when I let the dogs in from the yard. Not everyone understands that these furry bundles of ours are the purest expression of love we have been gifted with in this world(along with our feelings for our children, but they are more complex). But dogs are ALL love, and only want some of ours returned to them. I know saying these things will not lessen your pain, but I just wanted you to know I understand it, and am thinking of you, and praying for you.
I said earlier that this note is long overdue. I learned to crochet from my grandmother, but never pursued it beyond the elemental stitches. So, while I pursued a master’s and musical interests, I was occasionally making afghans, scarves, etc. I never believed I could master the techniques required to actually make Clothes! Garments! Impossible! And then I found you. And my life was changed Forever! A cocoon blanket sweater. That’s what did it. A rectangle! I could do a rectangle. My mind works with geometric shapes, and I tuned right in on your patterns. You have taught me how to create almost Anything I want. I look forward to your patterns like the dry earth waits for rain. I now even create patterns of my own, thanks to you. There is never a day that I don’t crochet. It is an essential part of me that is satisfied over and over again. You gave me Confidence in myself. You give me Joy, and a special kind of peace. I can never Thank You Enough! I have rambled on enough, (don’t worry, I don’t expect you to print all this). Sorry. When I get going it is hard for me to stop! But truly, I am so Greatful. And I hope you and your family will always be blessed with Love, Peace, and Joy. Blessings, Jessica. Wow! I’m truly touched. Thank you so very much for your thoughtful, heartfelt comment. It means so much to me in so many ways and has truly touched me and reminded me why I do what I’m doing. It is a true heartbreak to lose a dog, and I thank you for your empathy. Enjoy your crochet hobby, talent, and designing Jacalyn. My very best wishes to you!!
The above comment brought tears to my eyes.
Same!
I love this vest. The subtle ruffle looks so pretty and feminine. What a versatile garment! I think it suits all ages and body types.
Sad to hear about your dog. It’s hard when pets get old or seriously ill and we know that the time is near. I’m comforted by the thought of meeting my cats again at the Rainbow Bridge. And all beautiful memories.
Sorry to hear about your dog. I Have a dog that is 13 years old. I dread the day I lose him. He is my child.
Hi Jessica, sorry to hear of of your beloved pet. I know the feeling. When friends lose a pet I know you don’t do this but I crochet them a little puppy or kitten and they love them. Anyhow I really can’t wait to make this vest. With this wacky Utah weather lately it will be great. Thanks for all your great patterns.
