20+ Crochet Hat Patterns
Today I want to share some of my favorite, BEAUTIFUL, easy crochet hat patterns from several amazing designers!
Crochet hats are one of my favorite projects because they are so quick and easy to make! They also don’t use a lot of yarn, so they make for a great stash buster project.
Below you’ll find quite a variety of patterns to choose from. There are a lot of different stitches, yarns, colors and styles. I tried to put together a list of simple patterns, but you’ll find that some are easier than others.
You’ll also see that different yarns can be used for hats, and they each offer a unique look!
Yarn Commonly Used for Hats
- Worsted Weight #4 Yarn
- Chunky #5 yarn (my personal favorite)
- Super Bulky #6 yarn (hats that use this yarn work up FAST!)
Definitely use whichever yarn your chosen pattern calls for. And use the same hook as well! My first hat turned out so bad because I used a hook that was too big. lol
Each of the patterns below are free, and some have picture tutorials or videos as well. Honestly, some of my favorite crochet hat patterns use the most basic of stitches. Ribbed fabric is so easy to make with crochet. If you know how to single crochet, you can totally make a hat
What Yarn Fiber To Use for Hats
When I crochet hats, or any wearable really, I like to use a washable yarn. Acrylics are good as long as they are soft, and I love a good cotton! I do find that cotton is hard to find and it’s not as warm as wool.
One of my all time favorite yarns are superwash wool yarns because they are natural, but can be washed.
Lion Brand has some great washable chunky and super bulky yarns that look high end and are acrylic wool blends (like Wool Ease Thick & Quick). These are great go-to’s for me as well! In conclusion, here’s a list of my fave hat fibers:
- Washable wool acrylic blend
- Superwash wool
- Acrylic (that’s soft)
- Cotton (if you want something lighter, or for baby)
How To Crochet A Hat
You’ll see in the patterns below that there are several ways to crochet a hat! You can make it from the bottom-up, top down, or side to side!
A common way to crochet a hat is to start with a flat base, which is the top of the hat, and then work the sides. You will see that method used with the Perfect Hat Pattern below.
Okay, let’s get to these pretty hat patterns!
