Today’s pattern is for an easy crochet hoodie that’s super warm and quick to make! After making a hooded knit coat, several of you asked for something similar in crochet. If you want to cozy up in a warm hug all winter long, this is for you!

I happen to have a ton of super bulky yarn (no surprise if you follow me), so if you’re like me, this is a great way to use some of it up. Boom!

My hoodie is crocheted with the color “Driftwood” which is a great neutral that I’ve enjoyed over the last many months. It goes with everything, and is sort of a mix of grey and brown – greige in a way. BUT, you can make this in any color that suits your fancy. AND if you have scrap skeins, feel free to do some color blocking! Make the panels each their own color, or create your own custom stripes. It’s super fun to make this your own.

This is definitely a cold weather sweater. It is suuuper comfy and warm because of the chunky yarn and wool blend. I named it after the town of Alamosa in Colorado, which is seriously COLD in the winter. You can use this if you live there. Ha!

Made entirely with beginner friendly stitches.

If you’re sensitive to wool, you can sub with any super bulky #6 yarn that you like. One option would be the 100% acrylic Hometown USA Super Bulky yarn from Lion Brand.

My favorite aspects about this hoodie are the oversized hood and the cozy pockets. It’s just as comfy and cozy as it gets!

How Do I Crochet A Hoodie?

It’s easy to crochet a hoodie! There are many methods available, but I like to keep things as simple as possible for new crocheters. For this hoodie, you will crochet several rectangles, and then sew them together. There are two front panels, one back panel, as well as a rectangle for the hood. In my pattern, you will crochet the rectangle hood directly onto the cardigan once it’s all sewed together and assembled. You will also crochet two sleeves and pockets, both with light shaping, so that you get a nice, comfy fit. Super simple! Definitely give the pattern a read, and check out the schematic to see how it comes together. I like to always look through a pattern to make sure that I understand it before jumping in. 🙂

Is This The Easiest Hoodie To Crochet?

In my opinion, it doesn’t get much easier than this hoodie! The only part that could be a bit confusing for a beginner would be the decreases on the sleeves, however, it is a simple skill to learn – like REALLY simple. I also designed the Chunky Sherpa Coat that has a hood, which is easy as well, but not as easy as this hoodie, simply because the yarn is more of a challenge to work with. Alamosa Crochet Hoodie Pattern

Pattern Description: This super cute hoodie is the coziest, trendiest sweater and it’s a
breeze to crochet! The oversized hood and comfy pockets make it perfect to throw on
during cold winter days. Wear it with a cropped t-shirt and high rise jeans, or any of your
go-to outfits. This hoodie is sure to take any wardrobe up a notch!

Skill Level: Easy +

Materials:
US Size P 11.5 mm crochet hook (or size to obtain correct gauge)
8 (10, 11, 13) skeins Lion Brand Yarn Wool Ease Thick & Quick super bulky #6 yarn in
Driftwood (140 g/skein and 87 yds per skein) Grab the convenient kit HERE

Please follow the key throughout the pattern according to the size you are crocheting:
S (M, L, XL)

Bust Circumference:
S – 40”
M – 44”
L – 48”
XL – 52”

Length:

Abbreviations & Skills:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
st – stitch
sk – skip
ch st – chain stitch
sc flo – single crochet through the front loop only
sc2tog flo – single crochet two together through the front loops only (decrease)
BPsc – back post single crochet
FPsc – front post single crochet

Gauge:
Approximately 7 stitches and 6 rows of stitch pattern in 4” x 4” (sc flo)

Notes:
This hoodie is created by crocheting a back panel, two front panels, and two sleeves.
Each panel is crocheted from side to side (this means that your initial chain for each
panel runs the length of the panel, top to bottom). The panels are then seamed together
and the sleeves are sewn onto the sweater.

ALAMOSA CROCHET HOODIE PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Back Panel
Ch 39 (43, 49, 53)
Row 1 Sc in 2nd st from hook and in each ch st across the row. 38 (42, 48, 52)
Row 2 Ch 1, turn, sc flo in each st across the row.
Next, repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately 20” (22”, 24”, 26”) wide. Tie off
and weave in ends. 2

Front Panel Pattern (make 2)
Ch 39 (43, 49, 53)
Row 1 Sc in 2nd st from hook and in each ch st across the row. 38 (42, 48, 52)
Row 2 Ch 1, turn, sc flo in each st across the row.
Next, repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately (8”, 9”, 10”, 11”) wide.
Repeat this pattern one more time to make a second front panel. Ensure that your two front
panels match. Tie off and weave in ends.

Sleeve Pattern (make 2)
The beginning chain is the widest end of the sleeve and you will crochet to the narrowest cuff end.
Ch 27 (29, 31, 33)
Row 1 Sc in 2nd st from hook and in each ch st across the row. 26, (28, 30, 32)
Row 2 Ch 1, turn, sc flo in each st across the row.
Row 3 Repeat row 2.
Row 4 Ch 1, turn, sc2tog flo, sc across to last two stitches, sc2tog flo. 24 (26, 28, 30)
Row 5 – 8 Ch 1, turn, sc flo in each st across the row.
Row 9 Ch 1, turn, sc2tog flo, sc flo in each st across the row to last two stitches, sc2tog flo. 22
(24, 26, 28)
Next, repeat rows 5 – 9, in that order, until piece measures approximately 10” (10”, 11”, 11”)
WIDE. Once it reaches the indicated width, continue crocheting in rows, working row 2 until
sleeve measures approximately 16” (17”, 17”, 18”) long. Finish with a row of rib stitch working
FPsc and BPsc across. (You may choose to make sleeves longer or shorter while keeping yarn needs in mind) Tie off and weave in ends.

Pockets – make 2 (worked side to side like panels)
Ch 14 (all sizes)
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch st from hook and in each ch st across the row. (13)
Row 2 Ch1, turn, sc in each st across the row.
Row 3 Ch 1, turn, sc flo in each st across the row, sc2tog.
Repeat rows 2 and 3, in that order, until pocket is approximately 6.5” wide.
Tie off and weave in ends.

Assembly and Finishing
Place front panels on back panel and seam up sides, using a whip stitch seam.
Leave openings for the arms and sleeves approximately 7 ½” (8”, 8.5”, 9”).
Seam at shoulders. Tie off and weave in ends.
Fold sleeves and seam. Sew sleeves to arm openings of cardigan with a simple whip stitch.
Place each pocket in center of front panels, approximately 1” – 2” above the bottom of panel, with shaped edge along the top and shortest edge along outside of front panels. Using a whip stitch seam, sew the pockets onto the panels, leaving the top of the pockets open.

Hood
Pick up yarn evenly along upper portion of collar measuring 25” with the center at the neck of the cardigan. See schematic diagram.
Crochet in rows using sc flo stitches until piece is 12” inches tall. Tie off. Fold hood and seam along top with a simple whip stitch.
