Golden Hour Mandala Blanket Pattern

This beautiful, beginner knit blanket features a gorgeous colorway of Mandala! It’s super soft, so it can be used for kids and babes too. While it’s easy enough for newbies, it features raised ridges throughout to add visual interest. It’s really a meditative blanket, and you don’t have to make any color changes.

While I love this colorway for the autumn months (you might also remember my Fall Horizons colorful blanket), it really is just gorgeous year-round. Because it’s made with light or worsted weight yarn, it’s not too heavy for the warmer months too. And as you know, I don’t design a ton of knit blankets with the lighter yarns! I definitely couldn’t resist this one.

Don’t you love when you discover a new colorway that you love?

I’ve seen a lot of Mandala yarns, but somehow had missed this “Banshee” color. The hues are just lovely together. As usual, you can choose any colorway that you like! This would be lovely in a solid color as well.

While Mandala is technically a light #3 yarn, you can totally use worsted weight yarn with this pattern.

Let’s get to this easy blanket!

Like an autumn sunrise, this Golden Hour Blanket features varied hues and a warm inviting look that gives all the cozy vibes. Perfect to use as a small throw or even a child’s blanket, it’s very soft and simple enough for most knitters.

The variation of colors work up naturally with the color changing yarn, and there are many other color options to choose from.  A simple knit design with raised garter stitch stripes make for a modern yet classic blanket to be loved by all.  Enjoy!

Materials:

3 skeins of Lion Brand Yarn Mandala light #3 yarn in Banshee 590 yds and 150 g/skein

   Pattern uses approximately 300 grams

US Size 8  36” or longer, circular knitting needles (blanket is knit flat)

Scissors

Stitch markers (optional)

Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Size (approximate):

One size: Small Throw/Lapghan 34.5” X 38”  This size also works well as a baby/child blanket size.

Adjusting the Size:

To make the blanket wider, simply cast on more stitches in any multiple.  To make the blanket longer, simply knit for more rows following the pattern repeat until you reach your desired length. Keep yarn needs in mind!

Gauge:

Not important for this pattern approximately 17 stitches and 28 rows in 4” x 4” of stockinette

Pattern Notes:

There are no color changes as you will simply knit through each skein of yarn until you reach your desired length.

The entire blanket is made using a combination of knit and purl stitches.  You will knit garter stitch borders and edging, and will work sections of stockinette stitch, broken up by a garter ridge “stripe”.

In order to keep color stripes consistent, you might need to wind yarn and save it for later in order to use certain colors at the correct time when starting a new skein.
