The October Throw Crochet Pattern

Here we go – another color changing pattern for you to try with a new stitch! I just love crocheting in the fall, and this simple blanket is inspired by the autumn season! With no color changes and a two row repeat, it’s super easy to make.

As many of you know, I’ve been having so much fun using color changing yarn the last few years (The Mountain Throw, Rolling Hills Throw, Woven Wonders). `It was time to use some different colorways together to make a “fallish” blanket. With the purples, rusts, and yellows, these two colors fit the bill!

Isn’t it so “October”? Inspired by all things fall and halloween even! BUT, if you don’t want these colors, go check out the other amazing options. Such a fun blanket and so many looks you could make.

Another cool feature of this pattern is that you’ll get to work the shell stitch. There are some really tough shell stitch patterns out there, but this is about as simple as it gets. You’ll just repeat two rows made of double crochet and single crochet stitches. It’s so motivating to watch the new colors pop-up with each new row. And the yarn does all the work itself!

2 (4) Lion Brand Ferris Wheel (worsted #4 yarn) in Buttercup or color of choice

2 (4) Lion Brand Ferris Wheel (worsted #4 yarn) in Wild Violets or color of choice

85 g and 270 yards in each skein

Pattern uses approximately 340 (680) grams

US Size H 5.0 mm crochet hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Size (approximate):

Two sizes available with instructions for the smaller size listed first, and the larger size listed in the ( ) throughout the pattern

Small Lapghan (S): 28” x 41”

Throw Blanket (L): 56” X 41”

Follow directions throughout pattern for the size you are making. The smaller size is listed first, followed by the larger size. S (L)

Gauge:

Approximately 14 sts and 7 rows in 4” X 4”

Pattern Notes:

Beginning chain is the side with finished measurement of 28” (56”).

Consider practicing the stitch on a small swatch before beginning the full blanket (chain a multiple of 6+2) to make sure you understand the pattern. It’s also a great way to check your gauge so that the size will turn out as planned!

Adjusting Size:

You can easily adjust the size of the blanket by starting with a longer or shorter chain and crocheting for more or fewer rows. Your beginning chain must be multiple of 6 stitches, then add two more stitches to start (6+2). Keep yarn needs in mind if you adjust the size of the blanket.

The October Throw Blanket Crochet Pattern

Follow the pattern by simply working through each skein of yarn (be sure to start a new skein at the beginning of a row).

For the Small Lapghan, alternate colorways each time you start a new skein of yarn. If you’re making the Throw Blanket, alternate colors every 2 skeins. Feel free to customize your blanket and mix the colors as you desire!

Chain 98 (194)

Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch st from hook, *sk 2 ch, work 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, work 1 sc into next ch; repeat from * across the row.

Row 2 Ch 3, turn, 2dc in same st, *sk 2 sts and make sc into next st (center top of the shell which is the 3^rd dc), sk 2, then *5 dc into next sc, sk 2, sc into next st (center top of shell), repeat from * across to the end, 3 dc in last st of row.

Row 3 Ch 1, 1 sc in 1^st st, sk 2, *5dc in next sc, sk 2 sts, 1 sc (into center of next shell); repeat from * across and end with sc in the turning chain of previous row.

Repeat rows 2 – 3 until you run out of yarn, or blanket is approximately 41” inches or as long as you like.
