Alpine Tweed Boucle Blanket Knitting Pattern

It’s that cozy time of year when us knitters love to knit cuddly blankets! Today’s pattern is beginner friendly, but it looks store bought and features a super cool yarn. I’ve wanted to design a blanket with Homespun for a while, so it’s great to finally have it available!

See the full, free pattern below, or you may choose to purchase the kit HERE. Coming soon to Etsy as an ad-free, printable version!

The art of knitting is just so much fun. Each piece (and blanket in this case) has a different look and feel depending on the yarn fiber, colors, texture and stitches chosen.

I chose to make this blanket with Lion Brand Homespun which is a boucle style yarn that features a wide variety of color options. This particular color has the gorgeous look of a tweed or heather, with flecks of color throughout. It just looks like it belongs in a cozy home on a favorite chair!

Some folks get a little nervous about using a different style yarn like Homespun, which I can relate with. But for me, the slight effort to get the initial feel for it is worth it!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you might remember the Sedona Serenity Shawl. It was so popular, and I actually ended up using it as a blanket! So it was high time to create a legit blanket pattern with the same line of yarn.

With this blanket, you literally only need to know how to knit and purl. It truly is beginner friendly! Practice with this yarn just for a bit to get the feel for it. Honestly, the biggest thing is that folks sometimes feel they can’t see the stitches in the blanket. I love it for a store bought, cuddly, top notch looking blanket!

Okay, let’s get to it!

Description:

Showcasing lofty yarn, it’s the perfect cozy addition to your favorite chair or couch!  Made with beginner stitches, it works up easily, washes well, and is a personal fave.  It truly looks like it could be from a high-end store! Two sizes available, and check out the incredible colors you can choose from to make this your own!

  (170 g and 185 yds per skein)

Throw 38” X 52”

Instructions for each size can be found throughout the pattern.

Pattern Notes:

You will begin with a garter stitch border. Next, you will move into the pattern repeat which includes a 7 stitch garter trim on each of the sides.  Finally, a garter stitch edge is knit to finish the blanket.

The pattern calls for circular needles in order to comfortably hold all of the stitches on the needles, but the blanket is knit flat.

There are no color changes. Simply work through each skein of yarn!

To adjust the length, simply follow the pattern until your blanket is the desired length (keep in mind the final garter stitch edge length as well).  To adjust the width, cast on any multiple of stitches to achieve your desired width.  Check out the sizing listed above to be sure you like the length and width, and feel free to adjust accordingly while keeping yarn needs in mind! Easy peasy!

Have fun!
