Please note there’s been a revision and updates to the pattern since posting!

I recently began making a top with the Lion Brand Jeans yarn, and simultaneously started making a wrap. Who makes just one project at a time anyway? Not me – hehe! This wrap turned out to have incredible drape and it’s an easy, peasy crochet pattern.  If you’ve never tried to crochet a bias shawl or scarf, this is a super simple project for a first timer.  The stitch count stays the same for each row and you make simple increases and decreases on either side to achieve the bias look.  This piece is so airy and breezy for summer!

Using double and treble crochet stitches, this wrap works up quickly and it’s also lightweight. It’s easy to fold up and haul in your bag while travelling this summer.  The Lion Brand Jeans yarn (here) is incredibly soft and feels amazing on the skin. There aren’t very many acrylic yarns that I would use for summer pieces, but I don’t hesitate to use Jeans.  You might remember that I used it for my Easy Boxy T Shirt Knitting Pattern (here) and Azul V Mesh Crocheted Poncho Pattern (here).

I love the contrast of the long treble crochet stitches with the tight, puffy bobble stitches.  The colors can go with so many outfits, but you can certainly pick any other two colors that you like as well.  It’s too bad you can’t reach through the screen to feel how soft this is! If you’d like to use it as a swimsuit cover-up,  a light drapey, cotton yarn would be wonderful to use.

It had to be named something that fit an on-trend wrap that was suited for a warm, pretty place.   I went with “Santa Monica” as it’s such a hip location, full of beautiful style and sunny days.

It definitely looks and feels like spring here today, and I’m so excited for summer!  How about you? I’m telling you, the winters are too long in Colorado.

Below: The two colors worked really well together.

Friends!! While this wrap is fairly simple, it could be made even simpler by sticking with ONLY double crochet stitches throughout the pattern.  Essentially, you would work rows 1 – 3, and then repeat rows 2 and 3, in that order, until the wrap is as long as you’d like. You can make color changes whenever you want to add some stripes! If you’re more adventurous, you can tackle this pattern which includes easy bobbles/popcorn stitches and treble crochet stitches.

  1. I should so love to be clever enough to design things …
But why bother ? – there are people like you around to design them for me ! 🙂
The generosity of free designs is truly impressive: thank-you very much !

    1. I’m looking for a shrug pattern and think I could make this, stopping when the piece is long enough, then seam to make the arms. Jessica, do you that would work?

  2. Looks beautiful!
I am currently knitting a shawl in the bias. Hope it turns out just as nice. 🙂

  3. Love the wrap but I don’t crochet…would love a knitted one for summer and cool nights. Really love your site and have made several items. Thanks for the fun, simple and easy styles!!

  4. Loved it at first glance but upon seeing it close up……..BOBBLES, my heart soared! What a great textural component! I guess I need another wrap. Great news about Emelia and have fun with little Nora McFrenchie! Thank you for another stylish design, don’t know how you do it.

    1. What a great wrap – the colours and textures are beautiful! And I love the feel of Jeans yarn; it’s so nice to work with. I’d love to make the wrap an inch or two wider. Is that easy to do? How many more stitches would I have to chain on in the beginning row to add an inch. And, most importantly, would I run out of yarn???
      Thanks for another great pattern!

  5. Very happy to hear the great news about your daughter, thanks God she is doing well! Thank you very much for the tutorials, and free patterns. xx

  6. The last thing I need is another shawl. I live in a very hot climate and don’t get to wear them often. But this is so pretty I may have to make it anyway. If I do I think I will make it wider just to get it to cover more of my back. I love your color choice as usual!

  7. Another gorgeous garment! You are truly talented! So glad to hear that your daughter is doing better!

  8. Just love this! Thank you for being so generous with those of us who don’t design! Love your work!

  9. I love your patterns so very much. I’m limited to crochet but you explain everything so well. Do these instructions include the updates to this patterns? Thank you so much.

    1. Yes, this blog post was updated! Thanks for asking, Carol. And thanks for your kind words!

  10. I just finished your unique diagonal light wrap. It was very relaxing to crochet and even though I made a couple errors..what row now?…..your design is so very forgiving and lovely…it came out really well…I added a few rows and bobbles. Thank you so much for your complimentary pattern.

  11. Just one question – are you sure that the colour of Jeans yarn that you used was Vintage?? Not, say, Faded? If it was Vintage, either the colour in the photo is way, way off or there are wildly varying dye lots as the Lion Brand Jeans Vintage skeins that my local Michaels has in stock are actually grey with virtually no hint of blue. It almost certainly wouldn’t go well with Khaki (assuming that my local Michaels actually carried the Khaki colour but that’s a whole other problem).

  12. I completed the Bias Wrap using Jeans yarn in Stonewash and Topstitch colors. I have a photo but not sure how to send it to you. I’m a newbie crocheter but found this pattern really fun and interesting, and just beginner-friendly-enough for me to do. Thanks!

  13. Hi Jessica,
At the beginning of the pattern you indicated that there have been changes and updates to the pattern. Are those changes and updates included here or do I need to go somewhere else for the corrected pattern?

      1. Row 58, the bobbles are going to the opposite side than all the other rows of bobbles. I just manually pushed mine the other way. I’ve made this twice thinking the first time I made an error.

  14. dc in first st (increase completed), should this be 2 DC to make increase – I don’t understand how one will create increase – thank you!!!
